President Trump Creates a New White House Faith-Based Initiative
President Trump Creates a New White House Faith-Based Initiative
Oct 31, 2025 3:53 PM

On Thursday, President Trump signed an Executive Order establishing the “White House Faith and Opportunity Initiative” within the Executive Office of the President. The order states the purpose is to ensure faith-based munity organizations “have strong advocates in the White House and throughout the Federal Government.”

The order renames and reinstitutes an office first created by President George W. Bush. In 2001, the first executive order signed by President Bush established the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives at the White House. His second order led to the creation of Faith-Based and Community offices at 11 federal agencies. These offices were tasked with the mission of lowering the legal and institutional barriers that prevented government and faith-based groups from working as partners.

In 2009, President Obama renamed the office to the “Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships” and established an advisory prised of members with “with experience and expertise in fields related to the provision of social services by faith-based and other neighborhood organizations.”

Until last week, President Trump had not rescinded the orders by Bush and Obama, but had not named a director and the website for the office was removed. The new order revokes the previous orders on faith based initiatives by both Bush and Obama.

The new Initiative will be tasked with:

• Providing mendations on the Trump Administration’s policy agenda affecting faith-based munity programs;

• Providing mendations on programs and policies where faith-based munity organizations may partner and/or deliver more effective solutions to poverty;

• Apprising the Trump Administration of any failures of the executive branch ply with religious liberty protections under law; and

• Reducing the burdens on the exercise of free religion.

The Initiative will be led by the newly created position of Advisor to the White House Faith and Opportunity Initiative and be supported by experts and munity and faith leaders from outside of the Federal Government, says the White House. All executive departments and federal agencies that do not already have Centers for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives will designate a liaison to the Initiative.

  Commentary on Today's Verse Commentary on Romans 1:16-17 (Read Romans 1:16-17) In these verses the apostle opens the design of the whole epistle, in which he brings forward a charge of sinfulness against all flesh; declares the only method of deliverance from condemnation, by faith in the mercy of God, through Jesus Christ; and then builds upon it purity of...

  Commentary on Today's Verse Commentary on James 3:13-18 (Read James 3:13-18) These verses show the difference between men's pretending to be wise, and their being really so. He who thinks well, or he who talks well, is not wise in the sense of the Scripture, if he does not live and act well. True wisdom may be know by the...

  Luke 12:2-3 In-Context 1 Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: BeOr speak to his disciples, saying: First of all, beon your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 There is nothing concealed that will not be...

  Commentary on Today's Verse Commentary on 1 Chronicles 16:7-36 (Read 1 Chronicles 16:7-36) Let God be glorified in our praises. Let others be edified and taught, that strangers to him may be led to adore him. Let us ourselves triumph and trust in God. Those that give glory to God's name are allowed to glory in it. Let the everlasting...

  Commentary on Today's Verse Commentary on Mark 8:34-38 (Read Mark 8:34-38) Frequent notice is taken of the great flocking there was to Christ for help in various cases. All are concerned to know this, if they expect him to heal their souls. They must not indulge the ease of the body. As the happiness of heaven with Christ, is enough...

  Commentary on Today's Verse Commentary on Titus 1:5-9 (Read Titus 1:5-9) The character and qualification of pastors, here called elders and bishops, agree with what the apostle wrote to Timothy. Being such bishops and overseers of the flock, to be examples to them, and God's stewards to take care of the affairs of his household, there is great reason that...

  1 John 2:28 In-Context 26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit-just...

  Commentary on Today's Verse Commentary on Proverbs 18:6-7 (Read Proverbs 18:6-7) What mischief bad men do to themselves by their ungoverned tongues! Proverbs 18:6 In-Context 4 The words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream. 5 It is not good to be partial to the wicked and so deprive the innocent of...

  Commentary on Today's Verse Commentary on James 3:1-12 (Read James 3:1-12) We are taught to dread an unruly tongue, as one of the greatest evils. The affairs of mankind are thrown into confusion by the tongues of men. Every age of the world, and every condition of life, private or public, affords examples of this. Hell has more to do...

  Commentary on Today's Verse Commentary on Psalm 25:1-7 (Read Psalm 25:1-7) In worshipping God, we must lift up our souls to him. It is certain that none who, by a believing attendance, wait on God, and, by a believing hope, wait for him, shall be ashamed of it. The most advanced believer both needs and desires to be taught of...
