Among conservatives, there is little doubt that higher education needs a wake-up call. Waves of antisemitism, harmful DEI initiatives, the loss of core curriculum, bloated administrations, and a general lack of direction and self-understanding plague contemporary universities. Few disagree with the diagnosis, but even fewer agree on the prescription. Some would have state legislatures take a more active role in directing universities toward their traditional roles. Others believe that kind of government overreach is a principal cause of the problem.
