O Muslims, listen to the Quran when it calls you by the most sublime name - believers. Allah The Exalted Says (what means): {Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do. And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands.} [Quran 24: 30-31]
See the details of this noble verse. This is an address for those who have gone to extremes in permissible things, those who started to act according to their own opinions even though Allah The Almighty will ask them about that on the Day of Judgment when they will stand before Him. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {…. And not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess.} [Quran 24: 31]
The verse does not say that it is permissible for them to expose their adornment to their friends or their non-Mahram (marriageable) kindred. Listen to the words of Allah, understand His religion and do not be overtaken by blind ignorance. Allah The Exalted Says (what means) at the end of that verse: {And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.} [Quran 24: 31]
Exposing women's adornment is only permissible before Mahram men. Those who claim wisdom as well as those who ignore this manifest clarification are invited to understand the Divine command. It is as if they say: we neither hear nor obey. They permit intermixing between the two sexes when they are friends or kindred. The issue of Mahram and non-Mahram relatives receives no attention. They all gather and joke with each other and both men and women eat together. All this takes place under the false claim that hearts are clean and pure. Exalted is He and High above what the ignorant say by great sublimity.
O you who spend long hours watching videos and the television, are your hearts purer than the hearts of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them?
The faith of some of the Companions could outweigh the faith of the whole Ummah (Muslim nation). They witnessed the revelation of the Quran and the Messenger of Allah, , was among them. The Prophet, , said to them: "No man ever meets a woman in seclusion but the devil becomes their third (companion)."
They responded, "We hear and obey." This was their attitude towards all the commands of Allah and His prohibitions. Let them rejoice for they were the best people and therefore Allah The Almighty chose them as companions for His Messenger, .
Then, when it was our turn in the fourteenth century, we said, “Our hearts are clean and pure and intermixing between the two sexes is allowed among friends.” Some of us even shake hands with each other and do so with non-Mahram women. We did so and considered it a form of progress, development and civility.
However, this, in fact, is disobedience to Allah The Almighty and His Messenger, , and a deterioration from the standards of Islam and faith into imitating the enemies of Islam and Muslims. In a Hadeeth, the Prophet, , said: "The person who imitates a certain people belongs to them."
This also features weakness of faith and a lack of protective jealousy. If such people were jealous, none of them would ever allow a non-Mahram man to talk with his wife as a friend. This leads to lack of bashfulness and indifference on the women’s part.
It is known that a woman shaking hands with non-Mahram men is prohibited and there is a relevant severe threat from Allah. So, fear Allah, avoid the traits of the pre-Islamic era which Islam came to fight and eradicate. You should have religious zeal, bashfulness and chivalry with which you could defend your honor and women. With your chastity and Islam, you will be distinguished from the Westerners as well as those who call to evil and corruption.
O Muslims, you should know that you are responsible before Allah The Almighty for your women and children. So, fear Allah, be jealous about your honor and maintain it. Do not turn the woman into a commodity that is exchanged among friends and in the streets. Fear Allah The Almighty and be conscious of the fact that He is watching you. Fulfill your duties so that you may succeed and be saved from the torture of Allah on the Day of Judgment, when neither wealth nor children will avail you.
