(rab' mag) Title of the Babylonian official Nergal-Sharezer (Jeremiah 39:3 ,Jeremiah 39:3,39:13 ). The name derives from the Akkadian rab mugi . The first element (rab ) means, “chief.” Unfortunately, the meaning of the second element is unknown. If associated with the root for magi, the Rab-mag was likely the officer in charge of divination (compare Ezekiel 21:21 ).
