Those who worship a god or gods other than the living God to whom the Bible witnesses. NIV, REB, and RSV sometimes use pagans as the translation of the Greek ethnoi ( 1 Corinthians 5:1; 1 Corinthians 10:20 ), which is generally translated Gentiles (so KJV, NAS). In English, Gentile relates to ethnic background while pagan refers to religious affiliation. See Gentiles; Gods, Pagan .
